Most of us have heard of “natural” skin care product and cosmetics. The bulk of us are familiar with “organic” products. But what about vegan skin care products?
Vegan skin care cosmetics and product are often mistaken or thought to go hand in hand with organic, natural, or even “vegetarian”-approved products, but this isn’t always the case. Vegan skin care products are made with zero animal ingredients.
That means no fats, dyes, or other “ingredients” that make use of animal byproducts are contained in that vegan product. As an added benefit, vegan skin care means no animal testing.Animal testing is not only harmful and cruel, but it is an archaic and inaccurate way of trying to predict how one product will affect a human being in comparison to how it affected a mouse, a monkey, or a dog.
Here’s the good news about vegan skin care: as the demand for animal and cruelty-free products rise, companies are rising to the demand and offering vegan-specific skin care lines. One of the favorite and one of the first that came out on the market is a Lush vegan-friendly body wash What makes Lush great is that not only are there a ton of vegan skin care products available to you that smell great and leave you feeling wonderful, but they also list every ingredient that has been used in their products. So there’s no guessing, no questioning, and no confusion – it’s easy!
So how about cosmetics? Sephora, one of the biggest beauty boutiques across North America, opened up a vegan skin care and cosmetic line not all too long ago. Sephora offers the same great products to their vegan customers as they do to their more conventional customers, making this company a top choice for anyone looking for vegan cosmetics.
If you are a vegan and have not been able to find the right skin care products for you, why not try making your own vegan skin care line? Start raiding your house and check your cupboards, because you can easily make your very own line of products right in your kitchen!
The Vegan Rose Mask
This is particularly great for anyone with sensitive skin. To make the vegan rose mask, all you need is:
- 1 rose
- 1 TBSP of rose water
- 1 TBSP of soy yogurt
- 1 TBSP of honey (some vegans may not accept honey as being “vegan”; try maple syrup or agave syrup instead)
Take the rose and pluck off the petals. Wash the petals in water, and then soak them for a few minutes. Crush the rose petals in a bowl. Now, add yogurt and honey together in a separate bowl. Add the rose water you have just created to the yogurt and honey, and mix well.
Once you have a thick texture going on, apply it to your face and neck. Lay back and enjoy the power of a purifying rose mask. After 10 to 20 minutes, rinse the mask off and follow up with a great moisturizer.
